My husband and I have been married almost twenty-seven years! We have three children, our oldest son is twenty-five and lives here on the farm with us, our middle son is twenty and is a sailor in the US Navy, and our youngest daughter is sixteen and is in high school. We began this journey four years ago this month. We wanted to follow our dream and start a small farm, and it's been a positive experience for our family. Moving from suburbia into a rural country life can be challenging with teenagers and college age children. It's was a big adjustment or all of us, but overall, I think we have managed quite well and it's gone fairly well. However, we have had to learn a lot about building a homestead and moving into a more self sustainable lifestyle. We have learned through trial and error and it's certainly been trying at times. I wouldn't trade the experience we have gained for anything, it's been a lot of hard work and a lot of fun all at the same time.
We have taken our eighteen acres, that we purchased in the north Georgia mountains, and started seeing it turn into something alive and growing. We have learned about gardening and growing our food. We have learned about storing and canning all of that food and we have learned about raising animals. We are still learning, but when I look back on the first day and every day since, it seems like we are becoming more and more educated in farming. I love the wealth of information that is out there that I can read and learn about, but hands-on experience can't be beat when it comes to farming.
My goal with this blog is to share our knowledge with others and help people that have the same dream, make it a reality. I couldn't of gotten to where we are today without the other's that have shared their lives through blogging and I hope to be one of those people that can inspire others as they learn too.
I look forward to seeing our website and blog grow just as our actual farm is growing. It's always fun to start something new and I feel this is a grand start to something wonderful.
