I suppose I started reducing some of the work when my son left for the Navy. I switched from a big half acre garden, that we all worked together, to beds around the house that I could do on my own or with limited help. It's been nice to garden from raised beds. I enjoy it so much more than the till the ground, hoe and weed, plant and harvest nonstop work that a big garden is. Raised bed gardening is so relaxed and laid back and I pick and pluck a little weed here and there, water and nurture and reap the rewards when we harvest. I love this kind of gardening. It's so much more my style than the standing in the field with a hoe raised to the skies screaming in frustration and begging for rain, like a scene from an old depression era film.
